A version with blue stars and circles also appears to be widely used. Do you have any information on what their original colors were? On the real image of the flag it appears that maybe the star's colors were worn out. Feitidede (talk) 00:45, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

@Feitidede: Although I haven't seen any concrete information on the flag's original colours, you do raise a good point about the possibility of some of the colours on the flag from the first link being worn beyond recognition. In that case, perhaps it would indeed be better to base the flag on the blue star version that appears on the Florida State Department website. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 21:37, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

I will make a version with blue stars then. However this raises the question of whether the stars have the same shade of blue as the rest of the flag's blue elements. I think we should get in touch with some historians and look for a definitive answer. Meanwhile the flag could be vectorized and uploaded and the later edited based on the real colors. I've received an answer from the Florida Department of State Archive describing the flag. The lighter blue color is historically accurate. Furthermore, we also have information regarding the ratio of the flag which will be updated. Feitidede☆ﾟ.* 20:02, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

It's worth noting that the emblems currently used by the websites of Yemeni governmental institutions vary greatly, with most of them being extracted from commons itself. Hence I've changed the emblem to what it is today to match what we can guarantee was made by the Yemeni government itself abiding by the constitution by basing my edits to the emblem on the Yemeni passport which appears on its first page (Which has been there since at least 2003). |MK| 📝 12:48, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Could somebody please create SVG files for the masthead flags used by the Norwegian polar exploration ship Fram, including:

1) The ship's original masthead flag (consisting of a red pennant with the name "FRAM" in white), used when it was was first launched (1892) and during Fridtjof Nansen's Arctic expedition (1893–1896), as seen within the images provided above.

2) The masthead flag used by the ship during Roald Amundsen's expedition to the South Pole (1910–1912), based on this official replica.

@Feitidede: I did consider providing similar file titles when I first made this request. The trouble is that I don't know for certain exactly how long the original masthead flag design was used for. Particularly since, in addition to the two expeditions mentioned above, the Fram was also used in another expedition from 1898 to 1902, and I haven't been able to find any indication of whether or not any masthead flag was even employed for that one (whether it be the original design, a different design entirely, or none at all). I just wanted to make sure the white diamond was supposed to be completely inside the red flag and not touching it's borders. On the original FOTW source the diamond appear much smaller [10], however on the painting it appears much larger. I think the FOTW version should be an accurate size. The version where the white shape does not touch the edge seems more intuitive to me, but we will probably never know for sure and both variants could probably be correct in the case of such an old company. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 21:54, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

SVG validation problem... Help please!

This is not a normal image conversion request. I am having issues trying to get rid of an SVG error in one of my images in the validation process.

Validation is often overly strict. The aria-label attribute is harmless, so I would not fix the validation error.

The SVG 1.1 specification did not include data-* and aria-* labels, so they are marked as validation errors. SVG 1.1 files can use a DTD subset to avoid those errors, but WMF rejects file uploads with such subsets for security reasons. Those attributes were added in the SVG 2.0 specification.

Inkscape inserts the aria-label attribute when it converts an SVG text element to curves. Instead of using a font to draw some text, the SVG now draws the text with curves/path elements (aka path text). The aria-label attribute tells us what the text used to be. If I were to remove the aria-label, then I would first turn the g element containing the path text back into a text element.

At some point, putting version="2.0" on the svg element should make these validation errors go away.

I have imported all of these images to the Wikimedia Commons, so here are more general duty (revenue tax) stamps of the French Tonkinese city of Hải-Dương to show more details of the 4 (four) images within the heraldic shield:

Could you please replace the Crown in these two files with another version of Tudor Crown? The Crown currently used is modeled on the version on Royal Cypher, but someone has previously suggested that there may be copyright issues, so I would like to ask you to use the Tudor Crown replaced with another version. At the same time, it is unlikely that a flag in normal use will have this kind of reflection. At the same time, the current document uses the 2022 version of the Tudor Crown, which lacks certain elements in its coat of arms compared to the 1901 version, and its emblem is unlikely to have this kind of reflection.

But I am more curious about whether there is any source to indicate whether the Flag of the Commander in Chief of Antigua and Barbuda uses a 2D crown or a 3D crown? I wouldn't get too caught up in minor differences. It really came down to who drew it rather than some official distinction. Another artist might have drawn the same coat of arms in a different shade or a different shape and would still be considered correct. There's nothing particularly wrong with either of them to be honest.

But if a change is to be made, the Orange River Colony is historic, so should roughly depict the 1901 crown. Whereas the Flag of the Commander in Chief of Antigua and Barbuda is current, so should depict the 2022 crown. Dgp4004 (talk) 13:53, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

This is the reference source I found. From the photo, he should use a 2D crown, but I think the curvature of the crown bottom needs to be lowered to be closer to the reference source. We are not sure whether the new crown with a higher curvature at the bottom will be used in This flag, so I prefer to keep the crown bottom curvature lower.

That appears to be someone's mock up rather than an official publication. The UK Government has published a 2D and a 3D version of the 2022 crown on page 21 here. And it appears that they are sticking to a curved crown even above a shield:

Is there any case where it is actually used on Flag?

I haven't seen this 2D version of the crown used on Flag yet, and from the example image he shared on the reference source website (although it's still St. Edward's Crown), the curvature of the bottom of his crown is not that high.

(First of all, the figure was described as Saint Anthony of Padua, traditionally depicted as a monk holding a boy. The current file appears to show Saint Elmo. Besides, I think it would be better to use a sans serif font.) I leave a drawing of the flag from 1896, which shows a more correct image. I have taught myself how to hand over an svg from GIMP to Inkscape and make something that is beautiful and also useful. The xcf contains a path (the ones labeled "fig" have had the alpha/num stripped from them) that needs to be reversed. I imported the picture and the path into Inkscape and proceeded to fill in the missing alpha/num characters in a layer group called "en". The 1/1,000,000 is sad there (and not beautiful). Everything in these files is a guess about what would make a good SVG for others to add to. I would like an actual SVG that is not a guess.
